Appeal following aggravated burglary at home of elderly man

Navan Gardai are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary at the home of a 92-year-old man at Danestown, Balrath, last night.
At around 8.25pm, four men burst through the front door of the home of the elderly gentleman who was at home with his son at the time.
Three of the intruders were described as being “stocky” and one was particularly stocky. The fourth was slim. They had scarves over their faces and wore dark clothes. They had no obvious accents and were between about 5ft 7 and 5ft 10 in height.
One of the men was carrying a ten inch spanner and the others were armed with wooden sticks.
While the frightening ordeal was unfolding, another son came to the house to visit his father. It is understood that while shaken, none of the three men were physically injured.
Initially it was thought that the culprits took to the fields and the Garda Air Support Unit was despatched to aid the search.
Officers also searched the nearby fields.
However, Gardai now believe a vehicle was parked away from the house which was used to make their getaway.
Gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 8pm and 9pm who noticed anything suspicious to contact Navan Garda Station, particularly if they noticed a vehicle with four or five males on board.
Navan Garda Station can be contacted on (046) 9079930.
