Volunteers are continuing to search the Boyne in Navan for the missing man.

River search for missing man continues

Searches for a 21-year-old Kentstown man are continuing along the Boyne this week with a large number of volunteers from various search organisations taking part in the search operation.
Family and friends have also been involved in sweeps along the river banks for Mark Gargan from Kentstown who was seen in the area of New Bridge on the Kentstown Road in Navan in the early hours of Sunday morning, 22nd November.
Conditions have been difficult over the past few days due to the poor weather and because water levels have once again risen on the Boyne.
Meath Civil Defence has been co-ordinating the search which has involved Civil Defence volunteers, Meath River Rescue, Leinster River Rescue, Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service, as well as Drogheda River Rescue, Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the Garda Water Unit. Meath Fire Service and the Irish Coastguard helicopter were also involved in the initial response.
Michael Fitzsimons of Meath Civil Defence said they are very conscious of safety and is anxious to stress that people involved in the search should not go out alone and should stay away from the river edge due to the risk of banks collapsing.
