Meath copilot hailed a hero

The Meath co-pilot of a British Airways flight which burst into flames on a Las Vegas runway on Tuesday has been hailed a hero for his role in saving all 172 passengers on board flight BA2276.
Ian Callaghan (27) from Bellewstown was co-pilot on the London-bound flight which aborted take off at McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas, after the left engine caught fire.
Veteran pilot Chris Henkey, together with co-pilot Ian Callaghan, brought the plane to a stop and ordered immediate evacuation. All passengers managing to escape the stricken aircraft using emergency slides. A number of people, including passengers and crew, were treated for minor injuries.
A former pupil of Gormanston College, Ian calmly communicated to the control tower as the Boeing 777-200 caught fire.
Ian is a son of Paddy Callaghan, founder and chairman of chilled food company Natures Best.
