Cllr joe reilly elected mayor of navan

Sinn Féin’s Cllr Joe Reilly was elected Mayor of Navan for the second time at a meeting of Navan Municipal District this morning. Cllr Wayne Forde was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Reilly said it was a time of change for Navan and among the challenges ahead were the development of a bus hub, cycle lanes and Blackwater Park.
“It is a time of change but it offers us the opportunity to come out as a major vibrant strong community.
“The greatest challenge will be breaking out of being a commuer town to being a job creation town.”
He spoke of the need to keep pushing the Navan Business Park as well as tourism in the town.
Cllr Reilly paid tribute to outgoing Mayor, Cllr Sinead Burke who he said deserved extra praise for the way she had conducted herself as Mayor.
“She was innovative and an excellent communicator. Her work on Ireland’s Most Christmassy town got us great national publicity and the current Mayor’s Happiness Project is great at a time when we are trying to create positive mental health,” he said.
