Matthews to hold islands largest ever auction at weekend

Auctioneers Matthews of Oldcastle, are to hold what the describe as the largest auction ever to be held in Ireland, North or South, this Saturday and Sunday. Comprising of over 40,000 individual items the auctioneer Damien Matthews says: “It was an incredible feat of cataloging - certainly one for the record books!” The auction is by order of the receivers, Hugo Russell Ltd (interior and trade furnishers) and the goods have been divided into over 2,000 lots, with mirrors, lights, porcelain, china, rugs, glass,  silver, bronzes, some modern furniture  and other good quality trade 'smalls’. Mr. Matthews also said that 'the auction represents an excellent buying opportunity for both private and trade buyers as most of the lots will be offered without reserve, whatever they make on the day’.
Also included in the auction will be the furnishings of The Dragon Bar, Dublin 2 (due to refurbishment) and the estate of James T Reilly, by order of the executors, a small selection of antiques (about 200 lots). All goods have been removed to Greenogue Industrial Estate (N7, Junction 4) for the auction and public viewing in the warehouse, which will be well signposted for viewing from 10am this Thursday onwards. The auction itself commences at 12 noon on both Saturday and Sunday and the catalogue can be viewed online at www.matthewsauctionrooms.com. Food will be available onsite for both auction days.
