Planning permission granted for new navan cinema

Meath County Council has granted planning permision for a nine-screen cinema at the Dan Shaw Road in Navan.
Navan Co-Ownership sought permission for the development, which is believed to be part of an overall masterplan for the area zoned ‘town centre’, which is bounded by the Trim Road, Dan Shaw Road and Carriage Road.
It is believed the developers have already negotiated a deal with a large cinema operator and are ready to proceed with the project.
The permission is for a nine-screen cinema with a total of 1,282 seats, ticket office, shop and foyer area, ancillary customer and staff facilities, a café and five retail units.
The development will also include the construction of a new vehicular access onto Dan Shaw Road, internal circulation roads, temporary surface car parking for 217 vehicles and 155 bicycle spaces as well as landscaping and other development works above and below ground.
The area is question is zoned town centre and is expected to be developed over a lengthy period of time, starting with leisure facilities and eventually with shopping outlets.
Cllr Tommy Reilly welcomed the news saying it would first lead to jobs in construction and then when it was up and running, and would attract further development and business to the area.
Last November, Bord Pleanala shot down plans by Omniplex Holdings for a separate cinema complex at the Navan Retail Park and in 2012, planning permission was refused by An Bord Pleanala for two other separate cinema projects for Navan.
