Áine Brady announced as Third Age CEO

Third Age has announced the appointment of Áine Brady, former Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Older People, as its Chief Executive Officer.
Ms Brady takes up her new position today and succeeds Mary Nally who founded Third Age 25 years ago.
Third Age is a national voluntary organisation, which promotes the contribution of older people in local communities, which began in Summerhill, Co Meath.
Third Age has over 1,200 volunteers, mainly older people, working voluntarily as tutors, advocates, listeners and more throughout Ireland.
Since founding the organisation 25 years ago, Ms Nally has seen the organisation grow from an active retirement association in Summerhill, to a national organisation with local, regional, national and international programmes which positively impact on many thousands of people of all ages countrywide each year.
Ms Brady who was Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Older People from 2009 to 2011, believes that her knowledge and experience in the sector will be a great help and support in her new role.
She said: “I bring with me a real understanding of the needs of older people, both active engaged older people, and more vulnerable older people. Third Age spans this continuum, and locally and nationally works for and with a range of older people throughout the sector.
“In many ways this is a good time to be older in Ireland. We have succeeded in adding years to the life, but there is still work to be done to add life to the years. The National Positive Ageing Strategy was recently published and we now look forward to a Plan for its implementation. There are many challenges ahead, and I look forward to promoting the health and wellbeing of older people through speaking out on their behalf and through our many innovative programmes,” she added.
