Ashbourne student's designs at graduate fashion show

Griffith College student Maria Lola Roche, from Baltrasna, Ashbourne, will showcase her fashion designs at the Griffith College Graduate Fashion Show this Wednesday, 22nd May.

Maria is a talented up-and-coming fashion designer who is coming to the end of her final year of the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design at Griffith College. Maria’s graduate collection entitled ‘Poetry of Dissection’ will be modelled on the catwalk at Griffith College and was inspired by her fascination with the human form from birth to death.

She explains: “I explored my fascination with the human form, and how it contributes to our identity. The collection’s visual focus was on certain parts of the body, with a particular examination of the ribcage.”

Maria has been tipped as ‘one to watch’ in the Irish fashion design industry having won a number of awards in recent years. She was the winner of the UCD Young Designer of the Year Award 2012 and also finished in the top ten in the Peroni Design Awards for her design ‘Ribbon’ beating off competition from a hundred other entrants.
