Florist Jenny Murphy at work

Homecoming planned for Chelsea winner Jenny

A homecoming celebration is planned for Dunshaughlin florist Jenny Murphy following her Chelsea Flower Show win. Jenny won the Gold Medal at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show for her arrangement of 'Diamonds are Forever', a chandelier to be hung at the Queen Elizabeth II's diamond jubilee dinner. Jenny was selected to represent all of Ireland in this year's RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year competition at the Chelsea Flower Show, after winning first place in the regional heat of the competition in Greenmount College, Antrim. A homecoming is planned for Monday evening at 5.30pm at Dunshaughlin courthouse. Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, with responsibility for horticulture, Shane McEntee, said: "I am absolutely delighted that Jenny Murphy, from Flowers by Moira in Dunshaughlin, in my own county of Meath, has been awarded the signal honour of being named Chelsea Florist of the Year at the Royal Horticultural Show in London", said Minister of State, Shane McEntee TD. "As Minister of State responsible for Horticulture I am proud that this award has come to Ireland and to county Meath. It underlines once again that our amenity horticulture industry is capable of competing successfully internationally. "Jenny's win caps a great week for Ireland at the show which included a silver-gilt medal for Diarmuid Gavin's futuristic vertical garden, silver for the County Dublin-based Naul Gardening and Flower Club and bronze for Siobhán Hughes of George Preston florists in Newry, county Down. "Jenny's category gold medal and overall award is recognition of her innate talent for floral design as well as a reward for the determination and courage of her mother, Moira, who set up the business in Dunshaughlin thirty years ago," Minister McEntee stated.
