There has been widespread shock and sadness in the Trim and wider community following the death of local woman Hazel Reilly in a fatal house fire yesterday (Monday) morning.

A member of the Pratt family who are well known in the Trim and Ballivor communities, the mother-of-three and was predeceased by her husband Dermot.

Her remains will repose at Heffernan's Funeral Home in Trim on Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral Mass will take place in St Patrick's Church, Trim at 11am on Thursday followed by burial at St Loman's Cemetery.

Hazel is survived by her sons Damien, Dean and Derek, grandchildren, family and friends to whom sympathy is extended.

Emergency services attended the scene of the fatal house fire at Kilmurray Trim, with the alarm raised at around 6.45am on Monday morning.

Units from Trim and Navan Fire Services attended the blaze which caused extensive damage to the house and sadly claimed the life of Hazel Reilly, who was in her sixties. It is understood she was the only occupant of the house at the time.

Local councillor Joe Fox said the community is stunned by the tragedy. "The whole community is stunned. It is a terrible tragedy. She is from a family that is well bedded and well liked in the community. I know the family well and we offer our condolences to the family and offer whatever help we can to them at this terrible time."

Cllr Aisling Dempsey said it was a terrible tragedy and expressed her condolences to the Reilly and Pratt families, and to the wider Trim and Boardsmill communities of which Hazel and her family were active members.

Neighbouring Boardsmill GAA club offered its condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Reilly and Pratt families on its facebook page yesterday evening.
