Chris will also perform some of his own songs which have been so influenced by the magic of his folk heroes of the past, our late great balladeers.

Spirit of Irish Folk show at Draíocht

Blanchardstown’s Chris Kavanagh is back in Draíocht in two weeks’ time with his brand new show, a follow up to his ‘Legend of Luke Kelly’ show which has played Draíocht on a number of occasions. This new show is called ‘The Spirit of Irish Folk’, created by Chris, after a conversation with his songwriter friend Shay Healy, as they attended a third funeral of great musicians, firstly Barney McKenna died (founding member of The Dubliners), followed by Al O'Donnell (Sweeney’s Men Singer & Musician) and then Jim McCann (singer with The Dubliners), all of whom were good friends of Chris and Shay. They decided it was time to create a show to honour our great Irish folk heroes and Balladeers and so Chris and his band have done just that! This new show will take you on a musical journey through Ireland in times gone by from the days of John McCormack, Percy French, The Dubliners, Jim McCann and many more.

For as long as anyone can remember, Ireland has been richly blessed with wonderfully talented composers, singers and entertainers. From the days of Percy French and John McCormack in the early 1900s, and later on with The Clancys, The Dubliners, Pecker Dunne & Jim McCann to name but a few, our singers and writers have touched the hearts and souls of millions of people.
Even as the years fly by, new generations are captivated and inspired by our gifted writers and balladeers from bygone days.

Chris Kavanagh was raised on Irish folk and is well known as the lead singer of successful band 'The Legend Of Luke Kelly'. He has performed with The Dubliners on several occasions and appears on their 50th Anniversary DVD which was recorded in Dublin’s Vicar St. He has made it his mission to honour our great folk heroes on the live stage. Chris will also perform some of his own songs which have been so influenced by the magic of his folk heroes of the past, our late great balladeers.
