Drogheda Utd manager Timmy Clancy will be pleased that his side dug out a vital 1-0 win against hosts Galway Utd last night.
The victory ended a disappointing run of results for Clancy's men and gave them a first win since they beat Cobh Ramblers 4-0 on opening night.
Since them they lost twice to Cabinteely (League Cup and League), Longford Town and scrambled to a scoreless draw away to Limerick.
Last night in front of about 800 fans Mark Doyle scored the vital goal in the opening half as the defeat leaves Galway joint-bottom with Wexford.
Luke McNally from Enfield featured prominently for the Louth side while Luke Heeney from Bellewstown was introduced as a 78th minute substitute for Cian Kavanagh.
Heeney went close soon after with a shot across the face of the goal that was tipped over.
(Heeney won a Junior C medal with Duleek / Bellewstown when he came on as a substitute in the 2017against Blackhall Gaels and scored four points in the 1-9 to 1-6 victory at Pairc Tailteann in October 2017).
All last night's results condensed the positions in the race for the title as Wexford inflicted a shock 2-0 defeat on Bray and Cobh beat Shelbourne 2-1.
Meath duo Shane Dunne and Kealan Dillon were unable to prevent Athlone from falling to a 0-1 defeat against Longford Town.
There was one game in the Premier with Shamrock Rovers beating Finn Harps 1-0 with a late Greg Bolger goal.
Other games were postponed due to international call ups for the Republic of Ireland u-21s who play this evening.
