Ferguson on the mark for Republic u-15s

Evan Ferguson from Bettystown gave the Republic of Ireland u-15s the lead against Cyprus in the second friendly of the week yesterday.

Ferguson took advantage of slack defending to give Ireland the lead, as he dispossessed Konstantinos Veneizelos and ran in on goal where his shot easily beat Theodoros Koutsou.

However, it wasn't enough as hosts Cyprus hit two second-half goals to take the win.

Ben Curtis from Navan also featured and the u-15s return to action next month with two outings against Czech Republic.

Custis and Ferguson also played in the first game on Tuesday that eneded 0-0.

The FAI has announced tickets now on sale for UEFA European Under-17 Championships in Dublin, Longford and Waterford at €5 for adults while U-16s go FREE. Special offers will be available for schools and grassroots clubs.

The tournament will kick-off on Friday 3rd May 3, with 16 teams involved, and finish with the final on Sunday 19th May.

Tee team is coached by Colin O'Brien and Ireland U-17 team qualify automatically as hosts, while the remaining teams will be finalised after the upcoming Elite Round games. The draw for the tournament will take place on 4th April in Dublin.

O'Brien will have two friendly international games on home soil against Finland later this month as he continues preparations for what will be a third successive tournament appearance.
