Good start for Gary Rogers and Dundalk

Gary Rogers got his 19th season in the League of Ireland off to a winning start last night in the President's Cup final at Turner's Cross.

The Bohermeen man helped double winners Dundalk reclaim the traditional start-of-season competition that was first
contested in 2014

The Dundalk men successfully ended Cork City’s three-year stranglehold on the President’s Cup as they claimed a 2-1 win in front of President Michael D. Higgins with first-half goals from Dane Massey and Patrick Hoban.

Cork rallied in the second half and reduced the deficit in the 65th minute when substitute Kevin O’Connor - back at the club on loan from Preston North End - curled a brilliant free into the top corner from.

Dundalk will open the defence of their League title at home to Sligo Rovers next Friday night (15th February).
