Gary Rogers and Jamie McGrath with the trophy last night

Meath theme to party time at Oriel Park last night

Party time at Oriel Park last night where Meath men Gary Rogers and Jamie McGrath celebrated as Dundalk picked up the League of Ireland Premier title for the fourth time in five seasons.

Rogers was practically a sepctator for the 90 minutes as Dundalk survived having an early penalty saved to go on and win the game comprehensively by 5-0.

McGrath, from Athbiy, was introduced as a second-half substitute in a week where he also featured twice for the Republic of Ireland u-21 team.

Other Meath players who are with the club at the moment include Georgie Poynton from Bettystown and Ross Treacy from Navan who started with Parkvilla, but surprisingly that fact is not acknowledged in the Dundalk FC matchday programme.

Also the popular kitman (and former MDL referee) is Noel Walsh who is also involved with Kentstown Rovers.

For Bohermeen man Rogers this was a memorable season as last March he reached the 500 appearances in the League of Ireland.

Another milestone that he looks set to go on and equal (at the very least) is the record set by Ollie Cahill (Cork City and Shelbourne) for appearances
by a League of Ireland player in Europe.

Rogers now has 39 appearances in European competitions and is guaranteed a minimum of two more in 2019 when Dundalk play in the Champions League.

For now, the immediate target is the FAI Cup final at the Aviva against Cork City on Sunday 4th November and next friday night is the final Premier game of the season away to Bohemian FC.
