Fordrew Rovers take the points against Castle Villa

Fordrew Rovers edged out Castle Villa in the NEFL Div 4 at Moynalty on Friday night by 2-1 reports JUSTIN BURKE.

It was heartbreak for Castle Villa after they came back from a goal down to see their gallant effort destroyed as Niall Brady's tapped home a winner for Fordrew Rovers in the dying minutes.

The away side started the better of the two teams with Brendan Quinn going close to opening the scoring early on with a header straight at Lee Morris followed by a long range effort which didn't trouble Morris in the Villa nets.

Fordrew finally found the back of the Castle Villa net after seventeen minutes when Villa failed to defend a corner kick and a calamity of errors saw Meath GAA star Harry Newman pounce two yards out to force home the ball in front of a packed box.

With a half an hour played Fordrew Rovers nearly doubled their lead as Colin Devlin found some space on the right wing before delivering a cross to the back post where Greg McKeever
made an angled run from the left back position but his headed effort went wide.

Castle Villa manager Jason Clarke was dealt a blow five minutes later as Kieron Needle had to be taken off concussed following a bang to his head which left a nasty lump on his eye, and needing medical attention, Gary Lynch coming on for the frontman.

The second half Villa started the better with Cathal Looney playing a pass into Daniel Donoghue whose first time cross found Gary Lynch in the box and the big striker saw his shot cannon of the post.

Seven minutes later Fordrew were awarded a penalty by referee Ken Ennis as James Farrelly brought down Daniel Galligan in the box, and the forward was the man who stepped up to take the resulting kick which Castle Villa keeper Lee Morris guessed right when diving low to his left to keep out Galligans penalty and keep his side in this match.

Castle Villa seemed to step it up from here and after constant pressure they found an equaliser through the help of their two substitutes, Ben Tobin controlling the ball before beating his defender and sending a left footed pass into the path of Gary Lynch who made no mistake slotting home past Gavin Browne in the Rovers net with just a quarter of an hour left to play.

What was looking like a well deserved point for Castle Villa with three minutes remaining Fordrew Rovers won a throw on the right and Cian Browne took it which Villa cleared but back into his direction and the right back took one touch before crossing a ball into the Villa box ,and goalkeeper Lee Morris came out to punch it but didn't get enough on it and it fell to super sub Niall Brady who was on hand to volley home a right foot shot into the empty net and steal all three points in Moynalty.
