Parkvilla shine in Div 1 showdown

Parkvilla v Athboy Celtic at Claremont Stadium this evening.

Friday night football returned to Claremont Stadium this evening and home side Parkvilla picked up a win over Athboy Celtic who included former Sunderland player Sean Thornton in their side.

Both sides made decent starts to their respective NEFL Div 1 campaigns and Derek Coogan's Parkvilla recorded another victory in this contest.

They led 2-0 at the break with strikes from Jamie Blake and Lar Ivers.

The visitors dominated much of the second-half of what was a very entertaining encounter and they pulled a goal back when Derek Bowens scored from close range. However Parkvilla tagged on a third near the end when Ivers fired home from the penalty spot after he himself was brought down.

Athboy Celtic have made a number of signings this year including former Sunderland, Tranmere Rovers, Doncaster Rovers and Leyton Orient player Sean Thornton. He was busy in this evening's game but he was unable to save his team from defeat.
