Meath players go in search of European glory in Tallinn

Meath players Gary Rogers, Jamie McGrath and Dylan Connolly will be hoping to taste success on the European stage when Dundalk take on FCI Levadia Tallinn at the Kadrong Stadium, Tallinn this evening, 5pm Irish time.

While there was no information about the team at the time of writing Rogers will surely start against the Estonians while other Meath players Jamie McGrath and Dylan Connolly could also feature.

This game starts yet another European campaign by Stephen Kenny's side and the Lilywhites will certainly be looking to re-create the kind of golden European nights they generated two years ago when they club scaled new heights and made into the group stages of the Europa League.

That year Dundalk achieved some truly outstanding results including a 3-0 win over the highly-rated BATE Borisov as well as a 1-1 draw with Legia Warsaw. In their Europa League campaign Rogers also played his part in helping Kenny's troops chalk up a 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar and a 1-0 over Macabi Tel Aviv at the Tallaght Stadium.

Last March Rogers marked his 500th appearance in his long career in the League of Ireland with Dundalk registering a victory over Waterford. While they were edged out for the league crown by Cork City the Oriel Park outfit will be hoping to regain top spot at the end of this season - and few would bet against them doing just that.

Last summer also McGrath from Athboy got a taste of big-time European football when he played against Rosenborg in the Champions League second qualifying round. Dundalk lost that tie 2-3 on aggregate. Connolly from Johnstown, Navan has started to make an impact with Dundalk having previously had spells with Ipswich Town and Bray Wanderers.

Manager Kenny said European football presents a different set of challenges and he'll have his team ready for the fray, fully aware of what is required to win games in places like Tallinn.
