Hectic couple of weekends for Meath AAI

Meath AAI hosted cross country championships across under-age and adult grades over the last two weekends with the exception of senior which is scheduled for 8th December.

Cilles AC hosted day one of the juvenile even ages and novice championships at the Oldbridge Estate and Battle of the Boyne visitor centre.

In the overall team competitions nine clubs took home at least one team medal- they were Bohermeen, Cilles, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Fr Murphy, Navan, Ratoath, Tara and Trim.

In the individual medal table some 13 clubs were on the podium - Ratoath, Cilles, Dunboyne, Trim, Bohermeen, Fr Murphy, Navan, Star of Sea ,Tara, Dunshaughlin, Na Fianna, St Brigid's, St Andrew's.

Bohermeen AC will celebrate its 50th consecutive year in athletics since the present club was formed in 1969 and the club had more than 50 athletes in action with some excellent performances.

In the boys u-12 events brother and sister Conn and Cara Brennan both took gold in their respective races.

Trim's Ellen Vitting claimed top spot in the women’s novice event while Helen Hartnett had a very strong run just seven days after completing the Berlin Marathon. 

Also for Trim, in the novice men's race, David O'Connor, Pauric Farrell, Andy Linsley and Enda Markey finished second to Dunshaughlin.

Fr Murphy AC hosted Day Two where Star of the Sea athlete Aoife Parella won the Meath Intermediate Cross Country Championship title at Frayne in a strong field.

Fergus Crilly-McEntee took the laurels in the men's race while in the team categories Trim won the men's award and Dunboyne took the ladies.
