Fred Daly Plate for Black Bush boys

Black Bush defeated Wexford 4.5 - 0.5 yesterday in the final of the Fred Daly Plate at Woodbrook Golf Club for a superb success.

Yesterday the Black Bush team was in fine form and fully-merited the victory.

They got to the final with wins against local rivals Royal Tara 3&2 in the semi-final while they also enjoyed a fin win against Tullamore.

The matchplay competition, for junior boys, is open to clubs that were eliminated in the Preliminary and First Rounds 
of the prestigious Fred Daly Trophy competition - Leinster Section.

The Fred Daly Trophy commemorates Ireland's first Open Champion and has been competed for since 1995. 

Fred Daly won the Open Championship at Hoylake in 1947 and also played in the Ryder Cup four times, 1947, 1949, 1951 and 1953.

Black Bush lost out in the first round of the Fred Daly Trophy when Westmanstown edged them out 3 & 2.

There was a Meath team in the fnal of the Fred Daly Trophy, also yesterday, bur Mullingar got the better of Laytown / Bettystown 3&2.
