Basketball Ireland Secretary General and CEO Bernard O’Byrne has this week been elected to the Board of FIBA Europe.
The Athboy resident has had a long and distingusied career in sports organisations and he topped the poll at the FIBA General Assembly in Munich.
Mr O'Byrne received 42 out of a possible 50 votes to top the election poll and will serve a four-year term that will see him as a member of the Board until 2023.
His election sees him join 16 other new members on the Board in what will be a major shift for the organisation.
"I'm delighted to be elected to this prestigious role on to the FIBA Europe Board, this is a proud day for myself, but also for my family and for Basketball Ireland," he said.
