Navan AC Simon Cumbers / Paddy Hyland Road Race for Friday night

Navan Athletic Club's annual Simon Cumbers / Paddy Hyland Memorial 6k road race will take place this Friday evening with the start from Commons Hardware at 8pm.

The Alanna Russell memorial juvenile races will take place at the track at 7pm with events for boys and girls at u-8 (400m), u-11 400m) and u-14 (800m) with prizes for the first three boys and girls in each race and all participants will receive a specially designed Alanna Russell memorial medal. 

The route for this year's 6k race is via Commons Road,Clougherboy, Old Athboy Road, Commons Lane and finishing on the track with cash prizes for first five men and women overall, first three juniors male and female, first three in all categories from (40 to 70 male and female and first three male and female teams (four members).

The overall men’s winner will receive the Simon Cumbers memorial trophy and the women’s winner will receive the Paddy Hyland memorial trophy.

THE RACE HISTORY

The race commemorates the late Simon Cumbers who was a former Navan AC club member and he was tragically killed in Saudi Arabia in 2004 while working for the BBC.

The late Mr Hyland was a prominent member of Navan AC for many years and was well known in Irish athletics as a race starter.
Navan AC has also introduced the Ena (Ann) Tobin memorial cup to be presented to the winning ladies team.

There will also be an additional bonus prizes of €100 for the first Meath club-registered male and female to cross the line.
