Sensational senior debut for Elizabeth Morland

Cushinstown AC's Elizabeth Morland made a remarkable debut at  the Irish Senior National Athletics Championships winning two gold medals and a bronze.

The first of the Skryne girl's hat-trick of medals arrived  when she produced a stunning throw of 43.41m to win the javelin ahead of Grace Casey (41.70m) and Laura Dolan (34.48m).

Morland continued her outstanding form when she jumped 6.10m to claim the national long jump title ahead of Sarah Buggy (St Abban's) who jumped 5.85m and Sophie Meredith (St Mary's Limerick) who leapt 5.75m.

Morland was back in action in the 100m hurdles where she finished third in 13.80 seconds behind winner Sarah Lavin from UCD (13.62) and Kate Doherty (DSD) in 13.72.

Trim's Shane Aston was also amongst the medals when he threw 58.94m to claim silver in the javelin behind Clonliffe Harriers athlete Stephen Rice (66.95m).

Bohermeen AC's Kevin McGrath returned from a two-year injury nightmare to compete in the 1,500m and he proved his injury woes are behind by winning his heat and he lined up alongside Olympian Mark English and went very close to medalling crossing the line in fifth spot following a blanket finish with English claiming gold.
