Siobhan Rutledge lands first winner at Navan

Ashbourne twin Siobhan Rutledge had a day to remember at Navan yesterday when she landed her first winner on the track for trainer John McConnell.

Siobhan is key member of the staff at McConnell's Rockview Stables, located between Bellewstown and Stamullen, and her twin brother Ger also rides out regularly there as part of a hard-working team.

Yesterday at Navan the talented apprentice got her first winner when she partnered the McConnell-trained Magi Gal (25/1) to victory in an apprentice handicap.

Rutledge and Magi Gal had plenty to do to reel in the Pat Martin-trained Lady Rosebud in the final half furlong.

The two horses flashed past the post together and crucially, Rutledge had the edge and was in front with a nose to spare in the photo-finish.

“Siobhan is my right-hand woman in the yard, she's brilliant and her riding is getting better every day, she definitely has a career ahead of her," stated the trainer.

Earlier this year Siobhan was selected by RACE for a trip to Slovakia to compete at a track near Bratislava, all part of the learning process for this talented young jockey who will be aiming to get a few more winners on the board before the end of the season.
