Trainer Des McDonogh was on the mark at Galway yesterday.

Galway winner for Des McDonogh

Moynalty handler Des McDonogh was in the winners' enclosure at Galway yesterday when Hearts Are Trumps scooted home in a handicap hurdle at 5/4 favourite.

Mark Walsh was on board the JP McManus-owned five-year-old and had three lengths to spare at the post.

“I think he's a good horse, he's bred for fences, as he's out of a full-sister to Denman and he's a very good jumper,” commented the trainer.

Jockey Barry Geraghty was also on the mark with the McManus-owned Sancta Simona which won the opening maiden hurdle for trainer Willie Mullins.

Trainer Gordon Elliott added to the Meath theme at Ballybrit with a double when Woods Well got the better of odds-on-favourite Rashaan by a neck in a chase and Penny Jane also won over the big obstacles.
