Meath's Claire Coffey in action against Kilkenny today.

Royals edge out Kilkenny

Ahead almost all the way Meath had to withstand some anxious moments before getting the better of Kilkenny in the National Camogie League Div 2 at Pairc Tailteann today to make it four wins from four games played.

The win ensured Meath topped their group and they are guaranteed at least a place in the semi-final.

Playing with a strong breeze in the opening half Meath sought to build up a big lead but that proved easier said than done and at the break they led by 'only' five, 0-7 to 0-2.

However, Kilkenny also found it difficult to translate possession into scores in the second-half and Meath looked comfortable until they conceded a goal just before the end.

Kristina Troy and Aoife Minogue both showed the way for Meath with three superb points apiece. Sinead Hackett also landed two points while Aine McNerney also capped a fine display with an effort that sailed between the posts.

The single score proved to be enough to separate the sides at the end of a tough, physical encounter with Brendan Skehan's side doing enough to see them get one over the Cats.

Kilkenny scored their goal with time almost up when Ciara Phelan lofted the ball towards the Meath goals from 50 metres with the sliotar ending up in the net. However, the home side held out to record a fine victory.

Troy, Minogue and Claire Coffey were excellent for the winners.
