Young Royals withstand storm to set up Dublin date

It's Dublin next for Meath's young footballers after they defeated Wexford 1-12 to 1-5 in the Leinster u-20 FC at Enniscorthy today with the game played in hurricane-like conditions. 

The pitch at St Patrick's Park was checked a few times in the morning. However, the green light was given for the game to get underway and after playing into the wind in the opening half Meath pulled away to to secure their place in the last four with the help of a Shane Walsh goal.  

The visitors didn't make the best of starts conceding a goal in the second minute scored by Wexford's Todd Hynes but they gradually got a foothold to trail by only one score at the break, 0-4 to 1-2. 

Meath really took a grip on proceedings in the second-half helped by a 35th minute goal with Matthew Costello delivering a pass to Walsh who fired to the net. After that Meath steadily added to their account to claim the win. 

Walsh ended up as Meath's topscorer with 1-3 while Jack O'Connor, Jordan Morris and Luke Mitchell each slotted over two points. Conor Farrelly and Costello were others to point for Ger Robinson's team.
