Fitzgerald to receive President's Award

Meath's Christy Ring Cup winning manager and Kildalkey GAA chairman Nick Fitzgerald will be honoured with Gradaim an Uachtaráin (GAA President's Award) 2020 at a special ceremony in Croke Park on Friday 14th February, live on TG4.
These prestigious annual awards, organised with the support of club championship sponsors AIB and broadcast by TG4, affords Uachtarán CLG John horan an opportunity to acknowledge outstanding commitment and long service across the club and county network.
Fitzgerald hail’s from St Molleran’s Hurling & Football Club in Waterford where he played both codes for his club and his county.
In 1998 he moved to London where he worked for 13 years and played and trained with the Robert Emmett’s Hurling Club.
Since moving to the village of Kildalkey in 2002, Fitzgerald has immersed himself in the local GAA club.
Kildalkey are a club that had seen plenty of bad times during their long history and up until 2009 they just had one senior hurling championship title to their credit.
Then along came Fitzgerald and as both a player and a selector he was part of the historic Kildalkey team that won three-in-a-row between 2009 and 2011.
Fitzgerald became chairperson of the club development committee in 2010 at a time of significant infrastructure changes, from then to now, developments include a new second full size grass pitch, a state-of-the-art hurling wall and artificial training facility.
Fitzgerald was elected club chairperson in 2015 and still holds that role.
As if all that wasn't enough Fitzgerald is also a well-respected referee and was presented with ‘Referee of the Year' in 2013 following his appointment to the Meath Senior Hurling Final.
In 2017, he steered Meath to an All-Ireland MHC B title with a final win over Down in Clones, made even sweeter with the inclusion of three Kildalkey youngsters, including his son, Evan.
Fitzgerald was ratified as the Meath Senior Hurling manager for 2018, culminating in Christy Ring success in 2019 where again both his sons were involved, with Evan on the panel and Conor part of his support team.
The adopted Kildalkey man has had many successes in his GAA Life coupled with running a very accomplished business from bases in Kildare and London.
The President’s Award is well deserved, when you consider his influence over different aspects within the GAA organisation and in particular in Kildalkey Hurling & Camogie Club.
