Meath to face Clare for Super 8 place

Meath will tackle Clare in the All-Ireland SFC Round 4 qualifier next weekend following the draws on RTE 1 Morning Ireland this morning.

GAA president John Horan pulled Meath out of the bowl second and RTE analyst Kevin McStay did his bit for the Royal County by drawing Clare from the otjer bowl.

The prize for the winner of that game, and the other three ties, will be a place in the Super 8s.

The first pairing drawn was Cork v Laois while the two big ties to emerge were Mayo v Galway and Cavan v Tyrone.

The four ties will be played at neutral venues next Saturday and Sunday with the details of dates and venues announced later today.

Meath defeated Clare by 1-12 to 1-7 in the NFL Div 2 this year in Ennis.

The game was postponed due to heavy rain a few hours before the scheduled throw-in time on the Saturday (16th March) and was refixed for St Patrick's Day 17th March) in Ennis at 2pm.

The Meath team had travelled on the Friday night, but  had to move their base to Limerick for the unplanned extra night.

Despite playing with 14 men for 20 minutes Meath did enough to win the game by five points.

Shane Gallagher had a stint in the sinbin and then Meath quickly lost Bryan Menton to a black card but the victory was secured.
