Disputed point seals Na Fianna win

Na Fianna staged a late show to get the better of Blackhall Gaels with a disputed point sealing a 3-11 to 2-13 SHC victory against Blackhall Gaels at Trim today.

Peter Slevin was credited with what turned out to be the winning poit, but the score was initially waved wide by an umpire.

Blackhall missed a second-half penalty and also conceded a goal of the soft variety soon after the resumption although they were ahead by 2-9 to 2-0 at the interval.

Niall Kelly and Dermot Carty found the net for the Gaels. Carty also claimed six points with Shane Whitty, Colm Whitty and Stephen Morris also on target.

Na Fianna were fortunate to get the two goals, the first from the impressive Barry Slevin's 20-metre free while Mark Slevin got the second goal on the stroke of half-time

Na Fianna's good fortune continued after the resumption when Barry Slevin's long-range free dropped under the Gaels crossbar and at the other end Carty's penalty strike was saved by Eoin Reilly.

PENALTY SAVED

Na Fianna opened their point account in the 40th minute through Ronan Byrne with Sean Martin and Barry Slevin also sending over, but Gaels countered those scores through Jonathan Meyler (two) and Colm Whitty for a 2-12 to 3-3 third-quarter advantage.

Five Mark Slevin points had Na Fianna in the ascendancy with a Cian Slattery effort also on target and that tied the scores at 3-9 to 2-12 with nine minutes remaining.

The Gaels forged ahead again from Carty's pointed free, but Mark Slevin drew the sides level again two minutes from time.

In added time that disputed point arrived.
