Rathmolyon earn IHC win the hard way
The battling qualities of Rathmolyon came to the fore at Trim this evening when they defeated Kilskyre/Moylagh 3-12 to 3-10 in a gripping encounter.
Rathmolyon were particularly impressive in the second-half when they upped their game considerably to win. The game was watched by a native son of Rathmolyon - Martin O'Halloran - who is also Leinster Council PRO. He was returning to a ground he grew up beside.
Kilskyre/Moylagh enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the opening half and led 2-6 to 0- 5 at the interval with Derek Muldoon and Eanna Brody finding the net for the north Meath side.
However, Rathmolyon upped their game considerably after that as they took a firm grip on proceedings. Helped by a flurry of points from Gary Doherty added to goals from Stephen Mulligan, Trevor Healy and Darren Hennessey the team in green pushed ahead although Kilskrye/Moylagh with Sean Geraghty outstanding never gave up with Muldoon adding a third goal, his second.
Despite some sustained late pressure from Kilskryne/Moylagh, Rathmolyon's defence held firm - and at the final whistle they had done enough to ensure they got their campaign off to the perfect start.
