Longwood hurlers before tonight's game.

Longwood snatch dramatic victory

Sean Coloe hit an injury time point that secured a late winner for Longwood in a hugely entertaining SHC contest at Rathmolyon tonight that was full of dramatic twists and turns.

With the help of goals from Niall Smullen and Calvin Ryan Killyon led 2-8 to 0-11 at the interval but they lost their way in the second-half and were caught at the finish by a tenacious Longwood side who won by 1-20 to3-13.

Ryan fired home another goal in the second-half but Damine Healy also batted the ball to the net to give Longwood hope with 53 minutes played to leave the scores at 3-12 to 1-17.

Longwood dominated the closing stages and with the help of points  in the closing minutes including Coloe's crucial score they snatched victory.

Anthony Healy showed the way for Longwood with 11 points while Calvin Ryan with 2-2 was Killyon's topscorer but they needed more to overcome a strong display by the 'Wood.

The host club had everything well organised for the game with the pitch - which was prepared by groundsman Terry Pearle - in excellent condition.

This was a big night for Rathmolyon - and the winners who are managed by former Tipperary and Dublin hurler Ryan O'Dwyer. What a start to their championship.
