Sean Powter

Powter boost for Rebels

The return of the highly rated Sean Powter to the Cork panel has handed manager Ronan McCarthy a timely boost ahead of Saturday's NFL Div 2 clash with Meath in Pairc Ui Rinn, 7pm.
After a winless start to the league campaign Cork football is in need of a boost and the return of Powter to their 26-man panel will add to their attacking options.
The 21-year-old Douglas man hasn’t featured for the Leesiders since the opening round of last year’s Div 2 campaign against Tipperary after suffering a serious hamstring tear.

That injury led to an eight-month spell on the sideline, with Powter returning to club fare when introduced as a sub at the end of Douglas’ Cork SFC quarter-final defeat to eventual champions St Finbarr’s.

The UCC student featured for the Douglas u-21 hurlers and footballers during the latter months of 2018.

Brian Hurley and Mark Collins are also named amongst the substitutes, while Paul Kerrigan is set to start in attack with Paul Walsh coming in to defence in the only other change from the loss to Clare in the last round.
Cork (v Meath): Mark White; Sam Ryan, Kevin Flahive, Conor Dennehy; Kevin Crowley, Thomas Glancy, Paul Walsh; Ian Maguire, Killian O’Hanlon; Ronan O’Toole, Luke Connolly, Mattie Taylor; Michael Hurley, Ruairi Deane, Paul Kerrigan.
