Failure to register a referee could incur stiff penalties

Anyone want to be a referee? Now the chance is there for Meath gaels to fulfil any long-held ambitions to be a match official as a new referees' course is about to be run-off at Dunganny on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st November.

Meath Co Board's Referees' Administrator Frank Gallogly has requested all clubs to ensure they have a representative on the course otherwise they could lose out in terms of having any home games in the league and in lower-grade championship games.
“We have eight clubs who don't a referee and about 10 clubs who have referees by name but who are inactive. This puts a big strain on the administration of trying to have games played off,”
Gallogly told the Meath Chronicle.
“The downside for a club with no referee is a loss of all home games so it would be in their interest to have someone to take up the whistle and help out their club.”
Last January a referees' course was held and from that a number of promising match officials have emerged.
“We had a good response to our course that was held back in January and have discovered some great prospects from that group, but with over 4,000 games to be played referee are still very much in demand.”
David Gough will take charge of the course that starts on the 20th November and with the possibility of clubs losing out on league and, possibly, championship matches clubs will, no doubt, be eager to put forward candidates.
