Summerhill and Dunnboyne will be bidding for the Keegan Cup on Sunday.

Summerhill and Dunboyne set for Sunday showdown

Summerhill and Dunboyne will shape up for Sunday's SFC Keegan Cup final eager to deliver the silverware after some impressive performances on the way to decider.

Dunboyne will rightly go into the decider as favourites after they dethroned double-winning champions Simonstown Gaels in the semi-final while Summerhill will take a lot of positives from their 3-12 to 2-7 semi-final win against a talented Donaghmore / Ashbourne outfit.

Summerhill will also be aiming to make amends for disappointment at the same stage 12 months ago when they lost to Simonstown Gaels, something that manager John Lyons is keen to rectify.

“Finals are all about winning for any club, it's great for the parish, but we will be hugely disappointed if we get beaten, no more than we were last year,” he told the Meath Chronicle.

Dunboyne will be bidding to win the coveted Keegan Cup for the first time since 2005 and in manager Ciaron Byrne they have a man with all the right credentials to achieve success.

The Dunboyne manager played in four SFC finals with Dunshaughlin and captained them to the title in 2001.

“I was lucky to get to four finals, but these guys might never get to another one, you just don't know,” he told the Meath Chronicle as he stressed the importance of making the most of the opportunity.

The curtainraiser for the Keegan Cup decider will be the MFC final between Donaghmore/Ashbourne and St Colmcille's, two teams that have already served up a thriller in the qualifying phase of the competition.

On that occasion, St Colmcille's prevailed in a high-scoring encounter by 3-14 to 4-10.

St Colmcille’s completed a Spring and Summer League double in the u-16 grade in 2017 and will be looking to win the prestigious Delaney Cup for the second time in three years.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne's last appearance in the MFC final was in 2013 and on that occasion they defeated Dunboyne.
