Dunsany negotiate Wolfe Tones in Skryne

Dunsany had to work hard for a 3-13 to 0-11 preliminary JFC quarter-final victory against Wolfe Tones at Skryne tonight.

The reward is another outing in five days against Carnaross at Athboy - Sunday at midday.

That won't exactly give the Dunsany players too long to recover and they certainly used a lot of energy in tonight's contest against a battling Wolfe Tones second team.

Dunsany were ahead by 2-5 to 0-5 at half-time with the goals coming from Alan Kelly and Declan Smyth, but it was only in the closing stages of the half that they added some much-needed points.

Pierre Fox sent over three and Shane Brennan claimed a brace while for the Tones, it was two apiece from Oisin Corrigan and Rossa McDonnell and one by Thomas Blaney.

Blaney also had a goal chance saved by Dunsany's Cian O'Neill and it was goals that ultimately proved the difference - Dunsany got them and Tones just couldn't find the net.

Blaney and Jake McFadden had second-half goal chances for the Tones as Dunsany matched them point-for-point on the scoreboard until Smyth added the killer third goal.

It was an unusual finish for the goal as he got on the end of his own rebounded shot.

The absence of official linesmen also produced a sideline flashpoint which resulted in an official from each side departing under the direction of referee Patrick Nelis.

Carnaross men watching the contest will be pleased that Dunsany had such an exhausting encounter and that could be crucial next Sunday in Athboy.

For the Tones it was a third knock-out game in four days between IHC, SFC and JFC.
