Kildalkey surive a strong Dunboyne challenge

Kildalkey won on points would be the best way to describe this fifth round SHC joust at Pairc Tailteann tonight as they  edged out Dunboyne by 1-23 to 1-21,

The teams scored 1-12 apiece an a frenetic second-half as Dunboyne made brave bid to either grab a qualification place if other results were favourable (they were not) of at least win and avoid the basement position.

While they didn't win, they did avoid bottom of the table with that distinction going to Kilmessan.

This game turned into Sean Quigley versus Paddy Conneely as the duo went point-for-point over the hour with Conneely finishing on 13 and Quigley adding a penalty goal to his final tally of 15 points.

Six points from Paddy Conneely (three frees) were augmented by one each by Gary Kelly, Martin Healy, Brín Kelly, Sean Heavey and David Harmon (free) helped Kildalkey to a 0-11 to 0-9 interval advantage against Dunboyne who hit the front briefly in the opening half.

The Dunboyne challenge was back-boned on the scorebaord by seven Sean Quigley points and one each by Niall Smyth and Peter O'Doherty.

The pattern remained the same after the break, but crucially, Kildalkey had the talented Nicholas Potterton in the line up and he
added 1-2 at a vital period in the final-quarter.

Kildalkey and Ratoath go into the semi-finals while defending champions KIltale and Killyon will tackle Group B qualifiers Longwood and Trim in two quarter-finals.

Longwood v Kiltale; Killyon v Trim.
