Paddy Conneely was in fine form for Kildalkey tonight.

Kildalkey win well against Killyon

Kildalkey recorded an important 1-24 to 1-12 fourth round SHC victory tonight at Pairc Tailteann in Navan when they proved too strong for an understrength Killyon side.

The victory was achieved with some ease and it was only in added time that Killyon's Keith Keoghan finished the sliotar to the Kildalkey net for a goal that could be important with the final tallies of scoring differences are calculated.

Kildalkey needed to win to stay in control of their own destiny as the race hots up for qualification with four of the six teams guaranteed a place in the knock-out phase and all them are sill in contention.

Paddy Conneely was the main man for Kildalkey and he finished with an impressive tally of 12 points with six frees and a brace of '65s' in the mix.

Wind-assisted Killyon trailed by two points (0-8 to 0-10) at the interval as they struggled to keep pace with the fast-moving Kildalkey men.
The sides were level three times in the opening quarter with Killyon briefly enjoying a period of dominance, but apart from that they were playing catch up and struggled to cope with a lively Kildalkey side that moved well on and off the ball.
However, Killyon had a number of goal chances in each half, but Paul Fagan was inspired for Kildalkey between the posts and he made a number of excellent saves.

The tenacity of the Kildalkey defenders was also a factor and David Conneely was particulary impressive while a tally of 11 Killyon wides significant as well.

Conneely sent over five first-half points that were augmented by a brace apiece by substitute Nicky Potterton and Sean Heavey and one from Enda Keogh.

The first Nicky Potterton point arrived when he sent on for about a minute as a temporary sub and he was later sent on permanently for midfielder Evan Fitzgerald.

The new midfield pairing comprised Eoin Potterton and Patrick Potterton with Nicky going into the forwards where he quickly added another point.

The best point of the half was Keogh's effort when he gained possession around the middle, wrong-footed his marker and sent over the black spot.

Killyon stayed in touch thorugh Mikie Mullen, Calvin Ryan and David raleigh who each sent over a brace with Adam Farrell and Stefan Kelly also hitting the target.

Killyon managed one third-quarter point from a Mullen free and during that spell Kildalkey eased into a o-18 to 0-9 lead. Conneely (four), Nicky Potterton (two), Patrick Potterton and Derek Doran were the hitmen and that effectively finished the game as a contest.

Further points from Paddy Conneely (three), Doran (two) and Heavey plus Martin Healy's 55th minute goal made certain of victory with two Mullen points and a goal and a point from Keoghan easing the damage on the scoreboard for Killyon.
