Shock in Kells at death of two men in house fire

The town of Kells woke up to tragedy this morning with the death of two men in a house fire in Blackthorn Grove.

The men, one in his 50s and the other in his early 40s, were found dead after a fire at a house in the early hours of this morning.

It is believed one of the men was from Kells, while the other was from Navan.

The local community was reeling in the wake of the tragedy.

Deputy Johnny Guirke described it as a terrible shock and tragedy.

“This is terribly sad news. Our thoughts are with their families,” he said.

Deputy Thomas Byrne said: “My thoughts are with the families of the deceased. May the victims rest in peace. Thinking also of our emergency services at this time."

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the house at 3am this morning.

The men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man and a woman, who were in the house at the time, were uninjured.

Gardaí said they were "investigating all circumstances of this incident".

The scene was sealed off and the Garda Technical Bureau attended the scene.
