Navan businesses issue statements over virus rumours

Navan businesses Yeah! Burgr and FORTYONE have issued a statement regarding what they say is 'misinformation' surrounding their establishments being affected by the Covid-19.

Director David Moran says: "We would like to take this opportunity to address the rumours and misinformation that have been circulating about Yeah! Burgr. and FORTYONE in Navan being effected by the corona virus."

He says the facts are that a group of seven locals from Navan went skiing in a non-effected area at the time.

"They flew back from Lyon (France) on Sunday 8th March in the evening. Two of the three directors of the company were in the group.

On their return one of the group got tested immediately as he felt very unwell. He did in fact test positive for the virus and has been in isolation in hospital since he has returned and is now recovering. This was not one of the directors.

Everyone else In the group were advised by the HSE since the moment they got off the plane to self isolate and keep an eye on themselves for symptoms, as anyone who have travelled through airports in recent days will have been told. The moment any symptoms come up (if at all), they are to call the HSE to do a test.

The two company directors who travelled have had no symptoms whatsoever but as a precaution and under the advice of the HSE, they are self isolating for 14 days and have been since they got off the plane. They will continue to do so until given the all clear.

Not one of the group (including the directors) have been near any of our premises since they have returned and we can assure you all that they will not be, as a precaution until given the all clear.

Also, no one in direct contact with anyone of the group that travelled has been near any of our premises and will not be until given the all clear.

It's understandable how rumours can form without the proper information, particularly with something as serious as this, but we do ask you to understand how unnecessarily damaging such incorrect rumours can be to a business and the staff so we kindly ask all of you to share this so everyone has all the correct information.

"We really do hope this clears it all up. Business is open as usual and everyone involved is in good health. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and we really hope this clarifies the situation."

P Clarke's Public House also stated "P. Clarkes Navan would like to put a stop to these vicious rumours currently circulating around social media and WhatsApp groups today that a member of our staff has contracted COVID-19. THIS IS ENTIRELY UNTRUE! Not one of our members of staff has been in contact with anyone with the virus or travelled abroad in the last few months! Spreading vicious rumours like this without a bit of evidence can massively affect a local business like us! Please think before you write comments that can have a massive knock on effect!!! "
