Information meeting on Slane roadworks tomorrow evening

Meath County Council has appointed a contractor for road re-construction, road re-surfacing and drainage repair works on the N2 and N51 approaches to the centre of Slane. This is following a major investment in excess of €2.8m funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

Works, which began last week, are required on the N2 from the new graveyard on the northern end to approximately 0.5km south of Fennor Cross and along the N51 from the Garda Station on the Navan side to roughly 0.5km on the Drogheda side. Works will continue for a period of approximately 13 weeks.

Following a major investment in excess of €2.8m funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Meath County Council has commenced works on the upgrade of the N2 and N51 roads in Slane, which will necessitate road closures on the N2 over a number of weeks. Road diversions will be in place and local access and deliveries will be maintained.

The overall aim of the works is to improve road safety, carry out road reconstruction and resurfacing, repair and improve existing drainage and to increase the width of right turn lanes at junctions.

An information evening will be held in the Conyngham Arms Hotel this Thursday evening, August 8th from 5pm to 7pm. Representatives from Meath County Council will be in attendance to assist with queries.

Repair of both the approach roads is required because of the deterioration of the road surface due to the significant volume of traffic, including heavy commercial vehicles, on these roads. The N2 has an Annual Average Daily Traffic count of 8,847 vehicles, with over 16% of this being Heavy Commercial Vehicles. The N51 has an Annual Average Daily Traffic Count of 5,242 with over 6% of this comprising of HCV’s.

Night time work may be required from time to time.
The schedule outlined is based on the Contractor’s current programme and may be subject to change overtime.  Updates on the programme will be provided on www.meath.ie
