Dumping scourge returns to Frayne Bog

A TRAILER full of rubbish and garden waste has been dumped at Frayne Bog in Kildalkey just months after a major clean-up of illegally dumped waste from the area.

It's less than a year since wildfires raged through Frayne Bog, fires that were accelerated in part by illegally dumped material and saw fire crews from Meath Fire Service battling for five days to get under control.

One local resident, David Hawcroft, who contacted us said: "Only a few months after Coillte spent thousands of euro removing dumped rubbish from the Frayne road bog near Kildalkey it is back. In the last few days a large trailer, or truck load of branches and mixed domestic refuse has been dumped on the track through the bog. You'd despair."

The isolated bog roads and lanes have made the Frayne Bog area a prime location for the dumping of rubbish in the past. The fires last July exposed huge amounts of waste material that had been dumped there over many years.

Coillte have been contacted for comment.
