Drugs, weapons and stolen property seized in Trim Garda 'day of action'

Gardaí in Trim carried out a “day of action” yesterday which culminated in the seizure of a large quantity of property and the arrest of four persons.

The purpose of the operation was to target persons believed to be involved in the distribution of counterfeit currency, the sale and supply of drugs and the theft of goods nationwide. Search warrants were obtained and searches were conducted at ten locations in the town.

The operation involved Gardaí from all Districts in Meath Division, the Divisional Drug Unit, the National Stolen Car Unit and the Garda Dog Unit. A number of external agencies also assisted including personnel from Customs and Excise.

As a result of these searches, an assortment of items were seized including suspected stolen power tools, a stolen caravan, catalytic converters, a bicycle believed to be stolen, a small quantity of cocaine, numerous weapons and three cannisters of pepper spray.

A number of vehicles were tested for the use of illegal fuel and two of these were subsequently seized by Customs and Excise Officials. An Audi car was also seized under the provisions of Section 41, Road Traffic Act, 1994.

Four persons were arrested during the course of these searches. One person was immediately taken before the courts on foot of a bench warrant. The remaining three were released after interviews were conducted and pending further investigations
