Community space in Johnstown gym on cards

Johnstown Community Club (JCC), a group which was formed in 2017, is appealing to the people of Johnstown to support the establishment of a dedicated community space for the residents of the area.

The club is currently at an advanced negotiation stage with the owner of the former gym premises in Johnstown to occupy part of the building, according to chairperson, Jenny McHugh.

The lack of facilities in the large urban residential area was the driving force behind the formation of Johnstown Community Club in 2017.

Ms McHugh, the principal of St Stephen's National School, who is running for Fianna Fail in the local elections, said: "I wish to commend my fellow directors for their hard work and commitment over the last two years.  Over the years, JCC has developed a good working relationship with a number of stakeholders within the community and now needs to engage with community groups, clubs and residents to become inclusive for all.
"JCC is proud of its achievements to date and is now looking forward to working with the local residents and Meath County Council to provide a long sought-after home for Johnstown Community Club that will cater for the needs of our community," concluded Jenny McHugh.
The committee also includes Inspector Peter Gilsenan, Christine Keenan - Joint Treasurer, Garda Paddy Skehan and Robin Marshall -Secretary. Absent from photo is Emma Croghan – Joint Treasurer.
