Specsavers Ashbourne raise €550 in aid of local Alzheimer Day Centre

Specsavers Ashbourne celebrated Denim Day for Dementia by raising €550 for a local Alzheimer Day Centre in Whistlemount, Kells, a service provided by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
Earlier this month, Specsavers Ashbourne proudly wore denim and hosted a fundraising bake sale in aid of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. The team also donated all proceeds from glasses repairs on the day to the well-deserving organisation.
Having completed Dementia Friends training, an initiative run by the Alzheimer Society, Specsavers Ashbourne has become recognised as a Dementia Friend, with a badge to wear on staff uniforms to indicate their increased level of dementia awareness to customers. The comprehensive training covers all aspects of dementia and discusses how it affects people in different ways. With particular relevance to Specsavers, it also describes how senses can be affected, including sight and hearing.
Speaking about the store’s fundraising activity, store director Darren Connolly says: ‘The team were thrilled to have raised €550 for our local Alzheimer Day Centre in Kells, which is such a worthy cause that provides dementia specific services to the local community. We would like to extend a “thank you” to all customers for their generosity and support.’
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is the leading dementia specific service provider in Ireland. It works across the country, in the heart of local communities, providing dementia specific services and support, and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers.
