ICYMI Mickey Burke invokes the spirit of Del Boy Trotter

Understandably there were a few beers flowing in Longwood GAA clubhouse and Stoney Burke's pub last Sunday evening, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and quite possibly still today, but the undoubted highlight of the south Meath village's celebrations was Meath star Mickey Burke and his team mate Ryan Moore's re-enactment of a classic scene from Only Fools and Horses.

Never one to shy away from the lights, camera or action Burke donned his sheepskin coat, brylcreemed the hair to within an inch of its existence and channeled his inner Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter to recreate the famous January 1989 scene from the Only Fools and Horses episode 'Yuppy Love' to near-perfect effect.

Swap trendy wine bar for Stoney's, replace David Jason with Mickey Burke and stand Ryan Moore in for Roger Lloyd Pack and you have all the recipe for comedy gold.

In the 'Yuppy Love' episode, after seeing the film 'Wall Street' Del fancied himself as Peckham's answer to Gordon Gecko and changes his image. He even - temporarily - gives up the Nag's Head for a trendy wine bar where he was just a little too casual for his own good.

Anything Del Boy and Trigger can do, Mickey and Ryan can do better, but could the Peckham pair kick a ball over the bar from 40 yards? No chance... well done Longwood.

Is the original still the best? We don't think so.
