Irish night out third most expensive in europe

A study conducted by Irelands largest Consumer Network, One Big Switch, has found that a night out for Irish revellers ranks third in Europe in terms of cost. The research was published as part of One Big Switch's Big Night Out Index which compares the cost of a night out across Europe.

The index compares cost factors such as the use of transport, the cost of dinner, drinks, babysitting and a late night kebab. In total:

The average cost for a night out in Ireland is €112, just behind Denmark at €116.96 and Luxembourg costing €130.90.

The cost of babysitting ranked as the highest costing €50 for five hours, shortly followed by dinner and drinks at a combined cost of €48.

Commenting on the results of the study, Sarah Ryan, One Big Switch Director of Campaigns said: 'I don't think the results will shock many people, it's no secret that Ireland has some of the highest prices in the EU but at the same time this study shows that a well deserved night out for many people is a costly luxury.' The study also identified the cheapest places in Europe to visit with the lowest costing countries including Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic with the cost of a night out ranging from €4-€0.
