Children's Book Festival Family Fun Day on Sunday next

Meath County Council Library Service Children’s Book Festival was launched in Solstice Theatre in Navan by current writer-in-residence, author and illustrator Oisín McGann, and Ireland’s Got Talent judge and author, Jason Byrne, creators of 'The Accidental Adventures of Onion O’Brien' series. The fun filled hour with over 300 children in attendance was packed with laughter, jokes and some dramatic performances.

At the launch, cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Cllr Wayne Harding, stated: “The annual children's book festival allows us spread the enjoyment of books and reading among children and families all over Meath. The aim is to encourage children to enjoy the experience of reading, to give them the opportunity to meet some of their favourite authors and to take part in fun events for the whole family.”

With over 90 events this October, children from schools around the county will be entertained, enthralled and delighted by a variety of authors, illustrators and storytellers.  Some highlights include RTÉ weather meteorologist, Joanna Donnelly, introducing children to her 'Great Irish Weather book', and the Magical History Tour, with three of Ireland’s best known authors, Judi Curtin, Sarah Webb and Oisín McGann bringing some of history’s most dramatic stories to life.
The Children’s Book Festival Family Day for the whole family will take place on Sunday 20th October. Please check out of website www.meathlibraries.ie  further details or call into your local library and pick up a flyer. Most of the events require a booking.
All libraries now have free copies of this year’s Inis reading guide for children and young adults published by Children’s Books Ireland.
