Finding your way to Forever Young

Jimmy Sommerville

This Friday, 5th July, campers will begin to arrive at Palmerstown House Estate in Naas for what promises to be the grown-up weekend of the year. The Festival runs on Saturday July 6th and Sunday July 7th, with many thousands of music fans travelling to Kildare to enjoy live performances from some of the biggest 80s bands in the world. A small number of Tier 2 priced tickets are available, with Tier 2 pricing ending at midnight on Thursday or when sold out. Tickets (currently) from €107 are available at www.foreveryoungfestival.ie and there are no booking fees.

Set over just under four acres, the Festival Arena features one large main stage which will host 27 original '80s icons including The Human League, Holly Johnson, Kim Wilde, Jimmy Somerville, Marc Almond, Midge Ure, Bonnie Tyler and many more, plus a smaller Great Pretenders Stage with tribute acts The Bootleg Police, Wham! Tribute Show, The Joshua Tree, OMD Manoeuvres and The Bon Jovi Experience.

Music fans will discover a myriad of bars serving Irish craft beers, sparkling ciders, a choice of wines and fizz, a Pimm’s Bar, Beetlejuice Cocktail Bar plus soft drinks and freshly brewed coffees and teas. Foodies can tuck into delicious grub from Barbecue Cowboys, Pie Monsters, Knockout Pizzas, Berlin Kebabs, Kerala Kitchen, The Pasta Wagon and many more. Gluten Free, Halal, Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian? All covered at Forever Young! The Festival Arena also features a Fairground, Silent Disco, pop up stores, Quiet Zone and other fun grown-up things to do. The Festival Arena will open at midday on Saturday and Sunday, with live music starting both days at 2pm and running until 11pm. The Late-Night Area will remain open until 1am on Saturday and midnight on Sunday.

There is one Main Stage in the Festival Arena, so no need for complicated spreadsheets! The day to day artists have already been announced and running order and stage times will be revealed each morning at the Festival. All artists perform on the Main Stage and the live music runs from 2pm to 11pm.

Attendees are encouraged to allow plenty of time to get to the Festival, the M50 roadworks around Kildare can be notoriously busy, so in the words of Holly Johnson, ‘Relax!’ and be considerate of others. The Eircode for Palmerstown House Estate is W91 FK10. Follow the Festival Route signs on the N7, they will be well signposted to guide both Camping and Non-Camping attendees. The Camping Car Park opens from 12 noon on Friday. The Day Car Park at Goffs opens at 10am on Saturday and Sunday.

Festival goers are encouraged to let loose and dress in 80s style, bring camping chairs and picnic blankets, sunscreen and reusable water bottles. The Festival Box Office, Day Car Parks and Drop Off Points will be at Goffs on Saturday and Sunday, and it’s just a gentle 900 metre stroll through the stunning grounds of the Estate to arrive at the Festival Arena. Taking into consideration the fine vintage of many 80s fans, there will be a limited number of buggies in the Car Parks, who will bring guests and their belongings to the Festival Arena for a small charity donation!

Travel Master are operating pre-book only, daily, return Festival shuttles from Dublin and various points in Kildare. These must be booked in advance at www.travelmaster.ie Fans who are driving and parking must pre-book Car Park Passes at www.foreveryoungfestival.ie, print in colour and display on windscreens. Offsite parking is strictly forbidden, as is offsite drop-off or collection. Accessible and assistant tickets are available, with accessible viewing, facilities and camping also provided. All details on camping, parking, accessibility, ticket sales and more can be found at www.foreveryoungfestival.ie

Forever Young Festival is operating a very strict no single use plastic policy and all SUPs will be confiscated before entry. Reusable pint glasses and tumblers will be provided for use throughout the weekend for a small, refundable deposit. The festival grounds are home to horses and foals for much of the year, no glass will be permitted. As is the case with most festivals, day attendees cannot bring food or drink into the Festival, while campers may bring food and drink into the campsite but only for consumption in that area. Most bars and food stalls will take card payments and there will be a cash ATM on-site, but festival goers are advised to bring a small amount of cash. Off-site trading is not permitted. Most importantly keep hydrated, drink alcohol responsibly and never ever drink and drive.

In an effort to curb ticket touts, ID spot checks will be made at entry point, please bring ID or a screen grab of same. Security checks for prohibited items will take place as is the norm at all festivals.

Campsites and campsite facilities will be strictly for those holding a 3-Day Camping Ticket. There are many facilities within the overall campsite area for the exclusive use of all campers including a Londis Mini Market (all the essentials including ice but no alcohol), the Pamper Parlour (pre-book) plus food and refreshment offerings. There will also be a limited number of buggies in the Camping Car Park, who will bring guests and their belongings to their Campsite Area for a small charity donation!
