Navan actor Domhnall has been appearing as Pádraig in TG4s award-winning series Ros na Rún for six seasons.

Have you cúpla focail and acting experience? Ros na Rún the place for you!

TG4’s Irish language drama, Ros na Rún, is seeking budding actors to join their existing cast. The first of many auditions will take place in March (Date TBC) in Ros na Rún’s purpose built set in An Spideál.

Candidates who demonstrate the most flair and natural acting ability will be shortlisted and have the opportunity to return to the set and join the cast of Ros na Rún for series 24 which begins filming in August this year.
Of course, as well as an acting flair, candidates are expected to have Irish.
Series producer, Déirdre Ní Fhlatharta admits she gets excited before holding auditions at the thought of meeting the next new star of a soap she’s been associated with since it’s first broadcast in 1996.
“We have been incredibly lucky over the years to have found people who had natural acting talent who fitted comfortably into our existing cast line-up. Auditioning for a part on Ros na Rún gives actors a platform to showcase their talent and provides them with a potential job opportunity”.
“We are obviously looking for people who speak Irish and have that natural ability for acting. This year we are looking for a few specific actors to fill the role of new characters for our upcoming 24th season, we also use these annual auditions to scout out other talent as it keeps us aware of who’s out there.
“And sometimes we do find a gem and we do develop a role for them rather than the other way around. It can be an organic process at times,” she said.
This year they are looking for a male in his early to mid twenties, a woman in her mid forties and another woman in her mid fifties. Though many of the younger actors do attend acting classes or have been to some form of theatre course, some of Ros na Rún’s cast came straight from amateur drama groups and have adapted very quickly to the weekly filming routine of a television soap opera.
The series is set in a fictional village called Ros Na Rún, based in An Spidéal, Co Galway and is the single largest independent production commissioned in the history of Irish broadcasting.
The team behind Ros na Rún consists of 150 made up of crew, directors, writers and actors as well as about 80 extras a weeks.
Filming takes place on a purpose built set in An Spideál over a six month period and though its regular viewers  - about 150,000 tune in to the soap’s twice weekly broadcasts on Tuesday and Thursday with a subtitled omnibus on Sundays, it is also viewed on the TG4 player all over the world, mostly in the UK, USA and Australia but also in pockets on mainland Europe and even in Hanoí to name but one international city.
The soap’s appeal is down to its rural setting and its ability to tackle social issues with a dash of humour.
The current series has seen love blossoming and relationships dwindling as well as paternity and health issues and even an environmental topic of river pollution.
